For over 25 years Greg Krockta has been creating wood carvings throughout Long Island and the tri-state area. He has done work for all types of businesses and institutions such as: schools, churches, professional offices, restaurants, towns and villages, and private residences. Inspired by the nautical heritage of Long Island, Greg also has done quite a bit of boat and nautical carving.

Greg handles all phases of the wood carving process. Designs are made using computer programs, freehand drawings, and photographs that best capture the customer’s ideas. Virtually any style, size, shape, wood, and finish is possible since all of Greg’s work is custom made and one of a kind. Mahogany, pine, basswood, redwood, and cedar are just a few of the more common woods used but that is only the beginning.  Greg has carved most of the different types of wood available.

Greg is also known for his wood sculptures using several different types of burl wood, which has extremely unique and unusual grain. The artist and musician Larry Rivers said of Greg’s burl skulls, “These should be in a museum!”

Finishing is achieved with many of the highest quality products available, whether they are paints or stains, oil or latex while some of Greg’s carvings are gilded using 23 Karat gold leaf.

Greg Is an Eagle Scout, which is where he started to hone his woodworking skills. He is also a past president of The Long Island Woodcarvers Association. His work has been featured In Newsday, Fine Woodworking, Woodshop News, Woodcarving Illustrated, and on News 12 Long Island and PBS TV. Greg Is the author of “Carving Signs”. The book was published in 1997 and is the most comprehensive book ever written about sign carving. The book is now in its second printing. Greg’s work has been exhibited in galleries as well as arts and craft shows. Occasionally, Greg teaches classes and seminars.

The key question is, what can Greg do for you to create that one-of-a-kind piece for your home or business?
